Session Highlights for May 2017

  • Elders discussed ways in which our congregation is seeking the welfare of the community to which we have been called – devoting ourselves to the poor, seeking justice, and living out the whole of the Great Commission.
  • Session approved a class on “Forgetfulness-Normal Aging or Early Alzheimer’s Disease? Can New Medications Help?” to be offered next November.  This class will be presented by Dr. Cherian Verghese, Medical Director of Keystone Clinical Studies and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Temple University.
  • An Italian-themed fundraising dinner for Banner Elk to be held in Dale Hall on Saturday, June 24, 2017 was approved.
  • Session has called a Congregational Meeting for June 18, 2017 for the purpose of election of church officers and members-at-large for the Congregational Nominating Committee and for the purpose of approving a loan for Rev. Fettig to support his purchase of a home in the Media vicinity.
  • As requested by the Director of Youth Ministries, a proposal for a Media Inter-Church Summer Kick-Off was approved.  This Teen Block Party is scheduled for June 17, 2017.
  • Session voted to spend up to $15,000 of the 2016 surplus of $71,000 to help pay for new air conditioning for the sanctuary.
  • Session approved Lisa VanHeldorf to coordinate the summer music with the same compensation as last summer.
