Daily Devotions for Lent 2013

DAY 33

Friday, March 22, 2013

Submitted by Betty Luzier, Deacon

Dear Lord, In this season of Lent, help us to take the time to quiet our minds so that we may hear You and quiet our hearts so we may feel Your presence. If we are at a difficult place in our lives and can't seem to hear or feel Your presence, help us just to remember You are always with us.  In Jesus' name. Amen

Scripture:  Psalm 22

Today’s Devotion:

In Psalm 22, David is crying out to God,  "My God, My God, why have You forsaken me, why are You so far from helping me?"  In the beginning of this Psalm, David is clearly suffering and feels separated from God. But he truly puts his trust in the Lord and finds that when he does this, he feels the reality of God's closeness to him.  In our own lives we all have combinations of joy and sorrow, and sometimes the sorrows or fears far outweigh the joys.  If we focus on God in the difficult times, I believe we can feel His presence almost more than in our good times and that is certainly a blessing in disguise.  Most times we don't recognize this blessing until days or maybe weeks have gone by. Then we look back and realize God was right there with us the whole time.   In the words of a friend suffering from a serious illness, "Trust Him when your faith is small.  Trust Him...when to simply trust Him, is the hardest thing of all".
