Submitted by John Chaffee, Director of Youth Ministries

Heavenly Father, please be with us, help us to live as we should and to love as You would.  Grant us the ability to live out our faith in You with integrity and to be embodied proclamations of Your glorious Gospel.  We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus.  Amen.

Scripture:  Jonah 3:1-4:11

Today’s Devotion:

There is a saying that goes like this:  if we really loved justice, we would wish it to fall on our necks first.  Maybe, just maybe, if we really loved mercy, grace and forgiveness, we would wish those things for our enemies as well.

For Jonah, he was sent to his enemies, to their great city of Nineveh, home of the Assyrian army.  They were notoriously brutal and the least likely to repent.  But that’s the great punch line.  They repent better than Jerusalem ever did, and this made Jonah “angry enough to die.”  Jonah didn’t love with God’s love and patience in the story, but the good news is Jesus showed us it is possible.  Take time this day to love less like  Jonah and more like Jesus.
